The Subtle Art of Habit Stacking

Build momentum with routines that support your energy, focus & joy

In the book Atomic Habits, James Clear shares the concept of habit stacking: linking a new habit to one you already do. In Ayurveda, it’s dinacharya, a daily routine that aligns with the rhythm of nature and your lifestyle. In biohacking, it’s about optimizing systems. In my life, it’s how I aim to transform the everyday into a ritual of wellbeing.

During my annual 108 Days of Practice, I’ve returned again and again to this quiet power: pairing purposeful actions so they flow effortlessly. A ripple becomes a wave. One right choice fuels the next. I mean, if you are already going to brush your teeth in the morning, why not scrape your tongue first?

Here’s how habit stacking shows up in my day:

  • Morning rituals: Tongue scraping → oil pulling → 500ml of water with Arbonne GreenSynergy + lime
  • Movement & Meditation practice: Yoga, breathwork, and meditation + focus training with the Mendi headband (during meditation)
  • Hydration: Sipping water with trace minerals between tasks and every time I walk through a doorway—an anchor and energetic reset
  • Supplement stack: Triphala, Shatavari, Brahmi, Magnesium, Vitamin D3 + K2, Fish oil & creatine monohydrate for cognitive function
  • Biofeedback check-in: Adjusting my workout, rest and sleep routines daily based on the insights tracked by my Oura ring
  • Mindful multitasking: Audiobooks while walking, commuting, or folding laundry
  • Productivity principles: Following the Eat That Frog method from Brian Tracy— I tackle the most important work tasks first and focus on income producing activities. Financial wellbeing is also a pillar of holistic health.
  • Nourishment choices: Intermittent fasting based on my cycle, more protein, good fat and lots of veggies. I also avoid alcohol, refined sugar, seed oils, processed food.
  • Digital boundaries: Create content before consuing it. That’s my rule inspired by Marie Forleo in her book Everything is Figureoutable. I won’t scroll until I’ve shared something meaningful or nourishing. It keeps my creativity clear and my energy sovereign.
  • Evening meditation: Ideally before dinner to reset, or before bed to unwind and metabolize the day. I usually follow a guided meditation with the Sattva app from Art of Living for this second sit of the day.

I am not perfect. I am also a work in progress. Sometimes I get things wrong, but when I do and things become imbalanced, I come back to these are small habits and get back to maintaining and creating a big beautiful life, one day at a time.
